This week, the Bata Shoe Museum celebrated 20 years with a dazzling event at its location on Bloor West.  The world’s only footwear-focused museum saw three of its floors decked out with shoe-shaped desserts, shoe art, and one giant pink-soled high heel for good measure.

Thursday was this week’s busiest evening and featured a duo of design-centric events.  Dala Décor‘s Deep and Seema Gill held a spring launch party at Dala’s warehouse on Benton Road.  The industrial space, awash in South East Asian antique and reclaimed furniture, was given a modern facelift specifically for this event.

This week, Karl Lagerfeld made his highly-anticipated debut on Canadian soil.   The trip was  to promote his Lobbies by Karl Lagerfeld collaboration with Art Shoppe Lofts at Yonge and Eglinton.  It was a religious experience for many of Toronto’s invite-only set.  Like a flock of well-coordinated migrating birds, the Chanel-clad crowd twisted and turned with Lagerfeld’s every move.

We bid adieu to another busy season of World MasterCard Fashion Week.   While its front rows were unsurprisingly packed with all the right people –  Mayor John Tory and Suzanne Rogers for David Dixon, and Elisha Cuthbert and Tessa Virtue for Hilary MacMillan – it was the event scene that really stepped up its game.  For every runway offering, there was an equally interesting event, after party, and after after party.

At long last, The Compendium has relaunched with a new address (society.photography) and a new weekly format. Check in every Friday afternoon for photos from the week’s best parties. With a busy spring/summer season of events ahead, we’re excited to bring you a snapshot of Canada’s society scene at its finest.  We’ve also done our best to preserve content from years past on the Archives page.

Another new feature is our Compendium Newsletter, which is set to launch in the coming weeks.  We’ll make an announcement when that’s ready to roll out.

If this is your first visit, our primary team consists of Ryan Emberley, Tyler Rumi and Evan Bergstra.  On occasion, we’re lucky to have Vito Amati, Mauricio Calero, and Tara Noelle contribute as well.

This week we have a special double feature: tomorrow we post our best shots from World MasterCard Fashion Week and, this Friday, we recap the current week’s event offerings.
